#47 111 Hours in Solitary Confinement

Season #2

Imagine spending 111 hours in total darkness—no light, no sense of time, alone with yourself. I recently undertook this ancient initiation, and it was nothing like I expected.

In the absence of distractions, your thoughts and emotions take centre stage, forcing you to face parts of yourself you usually avoid. This ancient practice offers a rare opportunity for deep introspection and healing.

Before diving into the retreat, I sat down with dark retreat owner Severin Geser to discuss the experience. We explore the profound value of this practice and offer an in-depth look at what it truly means to confront yourself in the dark.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • The key benefits of a darkness treat and why you should do one.
  • The types of triggers you can expect and how best to handle them.
  • How they offer men a powerful rite of passage - an initiation into deeper self-acceptance.
  • The sense of centering and reconnection you can experience within yourself.

Make sure to catch the postgame of this exciting episode, where I share my full experience of the dark retreat: Episode 48.
